FAQ, troubleshooting and release notes
Frequently asked questions
Does EVoLabels make my labels legally compliant? It helps: it knows the label rules of many markets, orders the label as the law expects, warns when a required item is missing and converts nutrition and quantities per market. But you are responsible for the label - check its content, translations and allergens before you use it, and ask a food-law adviser when unsure.
Can I print the same product for several countries? Yes. Describe the product once; choose the market and label languages at the top of the print preview. The label is rebuilt for that market (allergens, nutrition format, mandatory languages and marks). Set your markets in Settings → Labels & data → Markets & languages.
Where do I change the label languages? In Settings → Labels & data → Markets & languages. Some markets require a language by law; the app adds it.
Why can't I print? Printing needs a plan with printing, an authorized device and, for team members, the Print permission. See Printing and printer setup.
Can a tap on a favorite print straight away? Yes: switch on Settings → Printing → Tap prints immediately on the device. Products that need a LOT, a date or a required field still open the preview. See Tap prints immediately.
Can I print without internet? Yes, on a device that is already set up: the preview, printing and the journal keep working, and everything is sent when the connection is back. See Printing without internet.
How many devices can print? It depends on the plan (Solo 1, Duo 2, Trio 3, Team 5, Business 10/25/50, Enterprise by agreement). See Team, permissions, devices and subscriptions.
Can my team use the app on their own phones? Yes. Invite them in Settings → Operators; each one signs in with their own account and works with the permissions you give them.
Do I need Google Sheets? No. Products can live in the app only; a spreadsheet is optional for editing many products at once (Google Sheets sync).
Which printers work? Many Bluetooth label printers (Phomemo, Zebra, TSC, Godex, Brother, Niimbot and more) and, on Android, USB printers. See the list and the compatibility wizard.
Is there a dark theme? Yes: Settings → App → Theme: System (follows the device), Light or Dark.
Can I suggest a better translation? Yes: Settings → Suggest a better translation. Type the text you saw and how it should read (optionally why); accepted suggestions ship with the next update.
How do I get my data or delete my account? Settings → Edit Account → Download my data gives you a copy of your data. The danger zone on the same screen deletes your account permanently, and Clear history and journal there deletes all print history and journal entries of the whole team (owners and those with that permission; it can't be undone). If you sign in with Apple, you confirm it by signing in with Apple again.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | What to try |
|---|---|
| Printer not found, label shifted, faint print | See Printing - when something goes wrong. |
| "Missing translations" before printing | Add the product or ingredient names in the listed languages (suggestions are available). |
| A required item is missing on the label | Open the product type's binding editor and add the field, or add a second label to the pack (Product types, layouts and bindings). |
| A team member can't edit a product | They may need approval for changes or lack a permission (Workstations and change approvals). |
| The sync lists many differences | Sync more often; check items marked for deletion before finalizing (Google Sheets sync). |
| "Google sign-in failed" | Check the internet connection and try again. Closing the Google account window just returns to the form. |
| "Google sign-in isn't available in this version" | Sign in with e-mail and password, or update the app; tell us at the support address if it persists. |
| "This e-mail already has an account" (Sign in with Apple) | The e-mail was registered with a password or Google: sign in that way. |
| "Checkout isn't available for this plan right now" (web) | Payment for that plan couldn't start. Try again later; if it keeps happening, tell us at the support address. |
| The app is in the wrong language | It follows the device language; English is used when the device language isn't supported. |
Release notes
2.6
- Printing: a label the printer didn't take now says Not printed – printer not responding instead of a false "printed". The app reconnects to the printer by itself, without reconnecting over and over, and keeps it when you rotate the device or switch apps. Labels and copies are sent only once the one before has finished, so WalkPrint and Phomemo printers no longer garble or skip labels (Connecting a printer).
- WalkPrint printers: Advanced print calibration in printer setup has Label length correction (−2 mm by default) and Tear-off feed (2 mm), so the printer doesn't skip a label and labels tear off cleanly. Several labels - copies, a label set, an order - print one at a time, with a question after each: Continue prints the next one, Print again repeats it, Stop ends the print; switch off Print labels one at a time to print without the question (WalkPrint printers and label paper).
- Orders and automatic replacement: products that ask for a LOT, dates or a required field when printing now work in order mode: Fill in details asks only for those values, then Print all prints the whole order. With Automatic replacement, printing several labels replaces as many of the product's oldest labels - three new labels the three oldest - and only once the new ones printed (Order mode, Automatic replacement).
- Editors: the preview in Choose what prints shows a real product, with its dates as if printed now; label usage in Settings is a list of options, each with a short description; with internal labels only, a product type with its own label goes back to the shared one with Restore the organisation's label. The product type card in the product editor shows the type's shelf life and what is asked when printing, and Restore sets the settings a product changed back to its type's (Bindings, Editing a product).
- Fixed: Suggest a better translation no longer closes the app, and help links in the app and on the website go straight to the page.
2.5
- Printing: with no printer connected, Print opens Connect a printer, and the label prints as soon as the printer is connected. Tap prints immediately in Settings → Printing prints a favorite with one tap, without the preview; it is on from the start when you print internal labels only. Product tiles are larger on phones, the Custom label button has a clear name, and WalkPrint printers print every label of a set, front and back, correctly (Printing a label, Tap prints immediately).
- Internal date labels only: kitchens that print only internal labels get a shorter setup, a simpler product type editor that starts from the Kitchen: use-by preset, and a product form and Settings without the parts meant for customer labels (target markets, their rules and warnings). Settings → Labels & data → Label usage switches between customer, internal or both labels (Customer and internal labels).
- Products: a new product asks for its shelf life and Favorite right after the name; Add saves it without the product form, More settings opens it. The product form is simpler: the names printed before the dates come from the product type, thawing or cooling time is under More, and one red line names the hidden fields your markets require, with (i) for the details (Adding a product).
- Label design: with Auto-resize, text shrinks to fit instead of breaking a word or a date, and a number stays with its unit; label previews in the editors are upright and compact (Layouts).
- Security: an invitation works only for the invited, verified e-mail address, and only once; your team is managed in Settings → Operators only, no longer through Google Sheets sync; a device that is offline must connect at least every 7 days (was 30) to confirm your plan (Printing without internet).
2.4
- Printing: the quantity and Print stay at the bottom of the print screen, the paper chip changes the label size right before printing, and a tap on the label shows it full size with zoom. A label that didn't print says why, with Try again; Print again in the history prints the same copies again. WalkPrint printers work on iPhone and iPad too (Printing a label).
- Print stations and orders: a device without a printer prints on a team device that has one, which can stay on as a print station (in the background on Android), and you are told when the label printed; order mode prints every label of an order and its bag seal at once (Print station, Order mode).
- Watches and widgets: EVoLabels apps for Apple Watch and Wear OS with Quick print, Expiring today, tiles and complications - send favourites to the printer and mark labels disposed from your wrist; Quick print and Expiring today widgets on iPhone and iPad, and real previews in Android's widget list (Quick print on your Apple Watch).
- EVoLabels for Mac from the Mac App Store, with plans bought through your Apple account and USB label printers. Keyboard shortcuts, menus, drag and drop and more windows on laptops, tablets and the Mac; iPhone Duo's large inner screen gets the tablet layout (Printing from a Mac, On a laptop or with a keyboard).
- Product types: templates are now called product types. Change product type in the product editor and Move to type on the Products tab move products to another type, with Undo; a new layout created for a label gets the label's fields spread over its boxes (Product types).
- Colours and images on labels: text and background colours, a background image for any box, red on Brother two-colour printers, and one preview for all labels of a set (Images).
- Ingredients and nutrition: pick several ingredients at once or add a new one from the search, a diet (vegan, vegetarian) for every ingredient, the nutrients all your target markets require, household measures with the right plural, and label prefixes you can switch off (Editing a product).
- Journal: Expired, Today and Tomorrow filters, Undo after marking a label disposed, several labels selected at once, and Statistics with the waste rate for owners and administrators (Statistics).
- Team, devices and Settings: Settings in five groups (Printing, Team & devices, Labels & data, Plan & statistics, App) with the printer at the top; seats in use, badges for devices waiting for approval, presets that say what they allow, the Print on other devices and Print orders permissions, and invitation errors that say why (Permissions).
- Setup and sign-in: the market and label language are proposed from your device's region, the printer step looks for the printer by itself, a waiting invitation joins its team in one tap, and Sign in with Apple works on Android and the web.
2.3
- Add a product by its name: type the name and answer What is it like? - the product type, its template and label follow from that; Tidy up suggests moving similar products into one type (Adding a product).
- Images and logos on labels: your logo, certification marks or icons in any layout (Images).
- More label styles: ingredients one per line, in two columns or as a table with %; nutrition as a compact, short or linear table - only where the market allows it (Bindings).
- Recipes: ingredient percentages (QUID) and nutrition per 100 g calculated from the recipe.
- Regular printers: print labels through the system print dialog on any office printer (Printing on a regular printer).
- Yearly plans: pay for a year and get two months free, where your store offers them.
- Labels in every language done right: dates, numbers and units per market, punctuation per language, right-to-left labels (Arabic, Persian, Urdu), nutrition as a translated table, front-of-pack warning symbols that no longer overlap, ingredient names from the catalogue when a translation is missing.
- Ready templates for delivery, to-go, grab-and-go, catering and tamper-evident seals; new label fields for storage conditions, instructions for use and "may contain traces of".
- Help centre in every app language, and a list of tested printers.
- Fixes: a new device that couldn't print although printing was on, reprinting from the journal QR, home-screen widgets swapping content, Google Sheets IDs, printing in Safari, a slow web start, and Chinese, Japanese and Turkish texts in the wrong language.
2.2
- Print on another device: no printer at hand? Send the label from the preview to a device of your team that has one, follow it from waiting to printed, or cancel it while it waits (Printing on another device).
- New evolabels.app: plans and prices for every number of printing devices, and a help centre with search and topics.
- Web checkout: a clear message when payment for a plan can't start, instead of a page that didn't open.
- Fixes: a crash when going back while the app was still starting, a crash after signing out, the message for a wrong password, the prompt about unsaved changes when leaving a template, and the quantity buttons on the print screen now have names for screen readers.
2.1
- Home-screen widgets (Android): Quick print with your favorite products and Expiring today with the labels to use or dispose of today (Printing, Journal).
- Help: Settings -> Help and the "?" on complex screens open this help.
- Workstations and change approvals: team members edit products only at their workstations; other changes go to a manager as a request, shown as a before/after comparison (Workstations and change approvals).
- Suggest a better translation from Settings, for any text in the app or on labels.
- Labels on the pack: split the required information over several labels (front and back); the law check covers them together and printing sends all of them.
- Customer and internal labels: separate law-compliant layouts and fields for products you sell and for your kitchen.
- Market rules: production date where a market requires it, language groups required by law, legal date captions, the made-on-premises exemption, warnings for missing legal elements and too small legal text.
- Languages: the app speaks many more languages, including Ukrainian, Filipino, Finnish, Turkish and Turkmen; ingredients are translated into every label language before saving.
- Dark theme, better accessibility (larger touch targets, readable at 200 % text size, screen reader labels) and texts that fit in long languages and right-to-left scripts.
- A reminder on the print screen that you are responsible for the label's content.
- Fixes: messages that appeared in English or Polish whatever the app language (sign-in, market notes, unnamed devices, device status), a sign-up with an e-mail already in use now says so, and closing the Google account picker is no longer reported as an error.
